Baldur, also known as Baldr or Balder, is one of the most beloved and revered gods in Norse mythology, known for his beauty, kindness, and wisdom. He was the son of Odin and Frigg, and the husband of the goddess Nanna.

According to legend, Baldur was invulnerable to harm due to a magical oath his mother had taken to protect him from all dangers. However, Loki, the trickster god, found a loophole in the oath and crafted a spear made of mistletoe, which was the only substance that was not included in the protection. Loki then gave the spear to Baldur's blind brother Hodr, who unknowingly killed Baldur with it.

Baldur's death was a great tragedy for the gods and goddesses, and it was believed to signal the beginning of Ragnarok, the end of the world. Many of the gods and goddesses wept for Baldur, and his wife Nanna died of a broken heart and was laid to rest beside him.

Today, many Asatru believers honor Baldur as a symbol of purity, innocence, and the beauty of the natural world. He is often seen as a shining example of goodness and nobility, and his tragic death is seen as a reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. Baldur is also sometimes invoked for protection and blessings, and some Asatruars create altars or shrines to honor him in their homes.
